Sheikh Hasina indicted for crimes against humanity in Bangladesh. Ex-police IG becomes state witness, offering evidence on alleged government atrocities.
Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been indicted in absentia by the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on charges of "crimes against humanity."
The charges relate to alleged atrocities committed by her government during past protests. A former Inspector General (IG) of police, also implicated in the case, has become a state witness, offering to provide evidence against Hasina.
The ICT has framed charges including mass killings, murder, and torture against Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and ex-IG Chowdhury Abdullah al Mamun.
Mamun, currently in custody, pleaded guilty and expressed his willingness to assist the tribunal in uncovering the full extent of the crimes.
