Sudan's RSF is accused of killing nearly 300 in North Kordofan village raids. The attacks targeted civilians, including women and children, says a rights group.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan are facing accusations of perpetrating a mass killing in North Kordofan state. Emergency Lawyers, a human rights group, alleges that nearly 300 individuals have been killed in village raids since Saturday. The targeted villages, including Shag Alnom and Hilat Hamid, were reportedly devoid of military objectives.
Shag Alnom saw over 200 deaths due to arson and gunshot wounds. Looting in other villages resulted in 38 civilian deaths, with numerous others missing. In Hilat Hamid, 46 people, including pregnant women and children, were killed. The UN estimates that over 3,400 people have been displaced due to these attacks.
The RSF has been engaged in a civil war with the Sudanese army since April 2023. The US and human rights organizations have accused the RSF of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. The RSF leadership has stated that it will hold those responsible for such acts accountable. The ongoing conflict has triggered a major humanitarian crisis, with widespread hunger and disease outbreaks.
