Sudan: RSF Accused of Killing Hundreds in North Kordofan Village Raids
Sudanese paramilitary forces, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), are accused of killing nearly 300 people in North Kordofan, Sudan, since Saturday. The Emergency Lawyers human rights group reports the attacks.
Details of the Attacks
The RSF allegedly targeted villages around Bara, resulting in over 200 deaths in Shag Alnom and 46 in Hilat Hamid, including pregnant women and children. Looting raids also caused 38 civilian deaths.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
The UN states that over 3,400 people have fled the violence. The RSF, battling the Sudanese army since April 2023, allegedly targeted areas with no military presence, violating international law.
Conflict Zones
The army controls central and eastern Sudan, while the RSF aims to dominate western regions. Recent fighting also occurred in El Fasher, North Darfur, where the RSF briefly captured key locations.
Accusations of War Crimes
The US and rights groups have accused the RSF of war crimes, with the ongoing conflict creating a major humanitarian crisis. The UN warns of worsening conditions, particularly in El Fasher, due to food and water shortages, with the rainy season exacerbating the crisis.
