A Russian airstrike on a Zaporizhzhia prison in Ukraine killed 16 and wounded dozens. Attacks also occurred in Dnipropetrovsk and Rostov regions.
A Russian airstrike has devastated a prison facility in the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine. The overnight attack resulted in significant casualties and has been condemned by Ukrainian officials as a war crime.
According to Ukrainian officials, the airstrike on the prison led to 16 fatalities and left more than 30 people injured. The attack also caused damage to surrounding homes. Regional leader Ivan Fedorov reported that Russian forces used high-explosive aerial glide bombs in the assault.
The Zaporizhzhia region is one of four eastern regions that Russia claims to have annexed, although a large portion remains under Ukrainian control. This attack is part of a series of escalating conflicts in the region.
In addition to the prison strike, there were further casualties reported in the Dnipropetrovsk region due to missile and drone attacks. A strike on the industrial city of Kamyanske resulted in two deaths and five injuries, according to regional head Serhiy Lysak.
Meanwhile, Russia claims that Ukraine launched drone attacks on the Rostov region, causing casualties and damage. The situation remains tense, with both sides trading accusations.
Former US President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Moscow, giving Russia a limited timeframe to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine to avoid sanctions.
