The serious crash took place shortly after 1 PM on Thursday on State Highway 6, specifically near Donoghues Road in the Ross area. Emergency services, including St John, were immediately dispatched to the scene to provide assistance to those involved.
St John confirmed that among the eight injured individuals, four sustained serious injuries. Two of these seriously injured patients required urgent air transport via helicopter to Christchurch Hospital for specialized care. The other two seriously injured individuals, along with two people in moderate condition and two with minor injuries, were all transported by ambulance to Greymouth Hospital for treatment.
As a direct result of the collision, State Highway 6 has been completely closed to traffic. The affected section spans between Kakapotahi and Ross.
