A predawn bus crash in Cambodia, en route from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, resulted in 13 fatalities and 24 injuries when the vehicle plunged off a bridge in Kampo
A devastating predawn accident in Cambodia has claimed the lives of 13 passengers and left two dozen injured. On Thursday, a bus traveling from the renowned tourist destination of Siem Reap, home to the majestic Angkor Wat temple complex, towards the capital city of Phnom Penh, veered off a bridge and plunged into a river in the central province of Kampong Thom.
Police officials confirmed that all individuals on board the ill-fated bus were Cambodian nationals. Initial findings from the investigation strongly suggest that driver drowsiness played a critical role in causing the fatal crash. The bus had reportedly departed Siem Reap late at night for what is typically a five-and-a-half-hour journey.
An estimated 40 passengers were believed to have been on the bus at the time of the incident. Rescue teams worked diligently throughout Thursday, continuing their search efforts for any additional victims who might still be missing. The bodies of those who tragically lost their lives are being held at a hospital located near the crash site, awaiting collection by their distraught relatives.
