Central Vietnam is currently grappling with the severe aftermath of extensive flooding and landslides, which have tragically resulted in the deaths of at least 55 people. Compounding the tragedy, 13 individuals remain unaccounted for, according to the country's disaster agency.
Unprecedented Rainfall and Regional Impact
The central region, a crucial area known for its robust coffee production and picturesque tourist beaches, has endured a relentless barrage of torrential rains. Over the past week, some localities have recorded astonishing rainfall levels exceeding 1,900 mm (74.8 inches). This intense precipitation triggered widespread flooding and destructive landslides across the vulnerable landscape.
Human and Economic Toll Mounts
The human cost of the disaster is profoundly felt across several provinces. Specifically, Dak Lak province has borne the brunt of the tragedy, accounting for nearly half of all fatalities with 27 confirmed deaths. Khanh Hoa province also reported a significant loss of life, with 14 people perishing in the deluge.
Economically, the impact is staggering. Government assessments indicate that the flooding has inflicted an estimated 8.98 trillion dong in damages, translating to approximately $341 million. The destruction extends to infrastructure and agriculture alike.

The sheer scale of the disaster is evident in the widespread damage to property and livelihoods. Over 235,000 homes have been inundated by floodwaters, displacing countless families.
