A Philippine anti-narcotics unit has been completely disbanded following grave accusations of rape and robbery made by an 18-year-old student. The incident, which occurred during a purportedly failed drug operation in Bacoor City, Cavite, has led to a major investigation and the arrest of multiple officers.
Allegations Lead to Full Unit Disbandment
The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that all 15 members of its Drug Enforcement Group – Special Operations Unit 4A were relieved of their duties. The victim, identified publicly only as “Nena,” a Grade 9 student, reported that on a recent Saturday, officers forcibly entered her Bacoor City home. They allegedly claimed to be conducting a “buy-bust” operation to apprehend her boyfriend.
Acting PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jnr swiftly ordered the unit’s removal and placed its members under restrictive custody. He emphasized the PNP’s “zero tolerance for abuse, misconduct or any action that undermines public trust,” according to a statement released by the Philippine News Agency. The unit included a colonel, its commander, and 14 subordinates.
Failed Operation and Command Responsibility
Elmer Ragay, director of the PDEG, informed reporters that the planned buy-bust operation in Bacoor targeting a suspect “did not materialise” because the individual managed to escape. He also noted that although the unit’s colonel was not directly involved in the operation, he was relieved based on the principle of command responsibility.
Victim's Account and Ongoing Investigation
Local reports describe the victim as an 18-year-old student and live streamer. She later reported to Bacoor City police that the PDEG officers had taken her jewellery and mobile phone, in addition to the sexual assault. Early police findings have reportedly corroborated her account, prompting an immediate pursuit and arrest of the implicated officers. Mugshots of eight officers allegedly involved have since been released by the Philippine National Police, underscoring the severity of the allegations and the prompt response from authorities.
