Moldova has lodged a strong protest with Russia following a series of absolutely unacceptable
drone intrusions into its airspace. These incidents, which saw multiple Russian drones violating Moldovan sovereignty, prompted Chisinau to summon Russia's ambassador, Oleg Ozerov, for a stern diplomatic rebuke.
Chisinau Demands Action After Airspace Breaches
On Wednesday, Moldovan authorities formally informed Ambassador Ozerov of the latest incursions, unequivocally urging Moscow to implement concrete measures to prevent any future breaches. The Moldovan Foreign Ministry explicitly stated that these incidents represent a serious violation of Moldova's sovereignty and a direct threat to national and regional security

The diplomatic tension escalated particularly after six Russian drones were observed over Moldovan territory on Tuesday. Notably, one drone reportedly landed on a roof outside Floresti, a town situated close to the Ukrainian border. Another was tracked traversing Moldovan airspace before continuing its trajectory towards neighboring Romania. To underscore the gravity of the situation, an 18-kg drone, believed to be the one that landed in Floresti, was prominently displayed outside the ministry building as Ambassador Ozerov arrived.
Russian Ambassador Dismisses Claims, Alleges "False Flags"
However, Ambassador Ozerov promptly dismissed the Moldovan concerns, expressing skepticism regarding the authenticity of the intrusions. He suggested that the incidents might be false flag operations

Persistent Tensions and Regional Instability
Moldova's pro-European government has consistently condemned Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and frequently accuses the Kremlin of actively attempting to destabilize the former Soviet republic. Moldova is strategically located, sandwiched between Ukraine and European Union member Romania. This latest drone incident arrives just a week after Moldova issued a similar, previous complaint to Ozerov, highlighting a pattern of ongoing concern.
The regional security landscape remains highly tense. On the same Tuesday, Romanian and German NATO fighter jets were scrambled in response to a separate drone incursion that penetrated deeper into Romanian airspace than ever before. Russia, in turn, has accused Moldova of fostering Russophobia
. The persistent diplomatic rift has already led to mutual expulsions of diplomats, with the most recent instance occurring in April. Furthermore, Ambassador Ozerov himself has been in Moldova for over a year but has yet to formally present his credentials to President Maia Sandu, serving as a stark indicator of the profoundly strained bilateral relations.
