Israeli Offensive Intensifies: Hundreds Injured in West Bank Raids on Tubas

A major Israeli offensive in the northern occupied West Bank has continued to escalate, with more than 200 Palestinians reportedly wounded in raids on the Tubas governorate. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) informed Al Jazeera that 78 individuals among those injured in Israeli attacks on Tubas since Wednesday required hospital treatment.

Shifting Focus and Mass Detentions

Initially, Israeli forces withdrew from Tammun and the Far’a refugee camp on Friday, subsequently shifting their focus to conducting raids in Tubas city and the nearby villages of Aqqaba and Tayaseer. Local authorities have reported the detention of nearly 200 Palestinians over the past four days. While most were interrogated on-site and released, at least eight individuals were arrested and transferred to Israeli military detention facilities.

Further raids across Qalqilya, Jenin, and Nablus led to at least nine additional detentions. The Wafa news agency, citing local sources on Saturday, indicated that five people, including two children and a woman, were apprehended during predawn operations in Qalqilya.

Escalation of Violence and Destruction

Since October 2023, there has been a significant surge in violent raids by Israeli soldiers and attacks perpetrated by armed settlers. November alone saw an average of 47 army incursions daily across the occupied West Bank.

The mayor of Tammun, a town within the Tubas governorate, described the recent raids as the most severe in terms of scale, destruction, and violence experienced in years. He detailed widespread damage, including over 1.5km (one mile) of roads torn up, vital water networks destroyed, private property vandalized, and residents subjected to severe beatings. This pattern of destruction mirrors other large-scale Israeli military operations throughout the occupied West Bank.

Home Demolitions in Jenin Refugee Camp

In the Jenin refugee camp, where a major Israeli offensive began in January, bulldozers are preparing for the demolition of at least 23 more Palestinian homes. This action follows notices issued days earlier, claiming these demolitions were necessary to ensure "freedom of movement" for Israeli forces within the camp, despite the area remaining largely depopulated due to widespread displacement. These condemned buildings were home to 340 Palestinians, though only 47, primarily women, were granted two hours on Thursday to retrieve belongings amidst heavy destruction.

Palestinian Resistance and Rising Casualties

On Friday, the armed wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a series of attacks against Israeli soldiers during raids in Jenin and Tubas. In Tubas, fighters reportedly targeted an Israeli foot patrol with an anti-personnel explosive device in the Wadi al-Tayaseer area. In Jenin, explosives were detonated against Israeli military vehicles in the al-Ziyoud and al-Bir areas of Silat al-Harithiya.

Tragically, since October 2023, at least 1,086 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers across the occupied West Bank, including 223 children, with 251 deaths occurring in 2025 alone. Over 10,662 Palestinians have also been wounded since the onset of Israel’s war on Gaza, and more than 20,500 have been rounded up. As of early November, 9,204 Palestinians were held in Israeli jails, with 3,368 detained without charges. Furthermore, the number of Palestinian deaths in Israeli custody has surged, with at least 94 documented fatalities since October 2023.
