A former British doctor, Nathaniel Spencer, 38, is facing a staggering 45 charges related to alleged sexual offenses involving 38 patients who were under his professional care. Among the alleged victims is a child under the age of 13. The charges stem from a comprehensive police investigation into incidents reportedly occurring at two state-run hospitals in central England – specifically in Stoke-on-Trent and Dudley – between 2017 and 2021.
Regional prosecutor Ben Samples announced on Friday that Spencer has been charged with numerous serious sexual offenses allegedly carried out while he was working as a doctor. These include counts of assault by penetration and sexual assault, with specific mention of charges related to a child victim.
The comprehensive police inquiry, supported extensively by prosecutors, meticulously reviewed available evidence. Samples confirmed that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that pursuing criminal proceedings is firmly in the public interest.
Spencer, who resided in Birmingham and worked as a resident doctor (a role previously known as a junior doctor in Britain), faces 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 charges of assault by penetration, and one count of attempted assault by penetration. Additionally, he is accused of a further 12 offenses involving a child under 13, encompassing both sexual assault and assault by penetration. The exact number of alleged child victims has not been publicly disclosed by prosecutors or police.
Nathaniel Spencer is scheduled to make his initial court appearance at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on January 20, marking the beginning of the legal process for these grave allegations.
