Border Czar Announces Drawdown of ICE, CBP Operations in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS — In a recent press conference, Border Czar Tom Homan revealed plans to reduce federal immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota. This decision comes amid ongoing controversy and concern regarding ICE actions in the state, including two fatal incidents involving U.S. citizens.

Homan stressed the importance of cooperation with local authorities and stated that the drawdown aims to improve efficiency and safety of operations. He also noted that the plan is contingent upon continued access to undocumented immigrants within state prisons and county jails, acknowledging recent cooperation from the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed support for the drawdown but reiterated his demand for an end to Operation Metro Surge. Frey stated, 'Any drawdown of ICE agents is a step in the right direction — but my ask remains the same: Operation Metro Surge must end.'

Homan's announcement followed the replacement of Greg Bovino, a controversial Border Patrol commander, who had been criticized for aggressive tactics and public outrage over operations like masked agents breaking into homes and intimidating legal observers. Homan promised to prioritize arrests of known undocumented immigrants with criminal records and those posing public safety threats.
