HSBC, Hong Kong’s largest bank, experienced a system breakdown on Friday afternoon, affecting both its mobile banking app and in-person services at several branches. The outage was reported to have started around 3pm, with the bank stating that the system was undergoing maintenance but would resume service shortly.

A staff member at the Mong Kok branch confirmed the network failure but could not provide further details on the cause of the stoppage. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has yet to comment on the incident.
