A Five-Year-Old Boy and His Father Return Home After ICE Detention

Adrian Conejo Arias and his five-year-old son, Liam, have finally returned to their home in Minnesota after being detained by ICE agents during Donald Trump's immigration raids. The family, who are asylum seekers from Ecuador, were held at the Dilley detention center for 10 days before US District Judge Fred Biery ordered their release on Saturday.

Representative Joaquin Castro played a crucial role in securing their release and bringing them back to Minnesota. 'Liam is now home, with his hat and backpack,' Castro shared on social media, including photos of the child to highlight their safe return. The family has since been reunited with their community and are adjusting to life after their traumatic experience.

ICE agents had arrested Liam and his father on January 20 when the boy arrived home from preschool. Images of Liam being held by ICE officers sparked global outrage due to Trump's aggressive immigration policies, which have led to the detention and deportation of many individuals, including US citizens.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has denied claims that Liam was used as 'bait' to get his mother to come out of their house. Instead, they state that Adrian fled on foot and left Liam in a running vehicle in their driveway before being apprehended.

US District Judge Fred Biery criticized the government's approach, calling it 'abjectly wrong' and 'ignorant of the US Constitution.' He emphasized the Fourth Amendment rights and the Declaration of Independence in his scathing opinion, which ordered the release of Adrian and Liam.

Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar also joined in celebrating their homecoming, sharing a photo of herself with Liam, his father, and Representative Castro. She expressed relief that 'Liam is now home' and praised the efforts of those who helped secure their freedom.
