For the first time in seven years, sakura cherry blossoms have bloomed at the Baguio Country Club in northern Philippines.

Baguio City, known as the summer capital of the Philippines, has experienced a rare botanical spectacle with the emergence of delicate pink sakura blooms. This event is both unexpected and captivating for residents and tourists alike.

Cherry blossoms, iconic to Japan’s spring, are not common in tropical countries like the Philippines due to their need for cooler conditions. However, Baguio’s higher elevations and unique microclimate have made it possible for these sakura trees to bloom after years of care and favorable weather conditions.

The trees were donated by Japanese nationals Shinji Okomora, Shingeru Tsunashima, and club member Paz Suzuki in 2018 and 2019. Their patient nurturing has finally led to this rare bloom event.

This is a unique opportunity for visitors to experience sakura blooms without traveling to Japan, as the bloom is expected to last for a limited time only.
