Hong Kong crypto investors remain cautious despite Bitcoin's sharp sell-off, with key players viewing volatility as part of the normal business landscape.
Despite a recent sharp sell-off in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, Hong Kong investors are maintaining a cautious optimism. The decline, which pushed Bitcoin to its lowest level in 10 months, has caused global crypto markets to feel the impact of macroeconomic pressures. While some professionals view this volatility as part of the normal business landscape, others remain concerned about the ongoing instability in the market.
Bitcoin dropped to US$74,541 on Monday morning, marking a 40 per cent decline from its peak above US$126,000. This drop has been exacerbated by thin weekend trading volumes and the breach of the US$80,000 psychological threshold. Major tokens like Ethereum and Solana have also experienced significant decreases, with Ethereum dropping over 15 per cent and Solana over 12 per cent since Friday evening.
‘This macro pressure has spilled heavily into crypto,’ said Evan Auyang, group president of digital asset company Animoca Brands. James Aitchison, founder of crypto hedge fund Caerus Global Management, added that the initial trigger was a sharp sell-off in precious metals late last week, which spilled over into broader risk assets. Professionals like Auyang and Aitchison believe that this volatility is part of the usual business-as-usual scenario for Hong Kong’s crypto market.
Despite these challenges, Hong Kong’s crypto investors are staying focused on the long-term potential of digital assets. They remain optimistic about the future development of the crypto market in the region and are preparing for further fluctuations as they navigate the ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties.
