The Coast Guard Identifies Victims in Fatal Fishing Boat Sinking

Gloucester, Massachusetts, faced a tragic maritime incident recently when a commercial fishing vessel, the Lily Jean, sank in frigid waters off the coast. The U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed that all seven individuals on board perished during the tragedy.

According to reports, the Coast Guard swiftly initiated an investigation following the sinking, which occurred without a mayday call. Accursio Sanfilippo, captain of the vessel, and six other crew members, including Paul Beal Sr., Paul Beal Jr., John Rousanidis, Freeman Short, Sean Therrien, and Jada Samitt, an NOAA observer.

The Coast Guard's Sector Boston commander highlighted the difficult search conditions, which included icy temperatures and stormy weather, complicating rescue efforts. Despite extensive search operations covering over 1,000 square miles, all reasonable efforts to locate survivors were exhausted without success.
