Paris prosecutors raided offices linked to Elon Musk's X in France as part of an investigation into allegations of illegal activities, including algorithm manip
The offices of Elon Musk's social media platform, X, in Paris were raided by the local prosecutor's office on Thursday. The cybercrime unit conducted the searches, supported by Europol.
The investigation began in January 2025 after complaints about X's algorithm and content recommendations. Both Elon Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino have been summoned to appear at hearings in April as part of the probe.
X has not yet responded, and BBC News is awaiting a comment from the company. The prosecutor's office described the raid as part of efforts to ensure X complies with French laws.
In July 2025, the investigation expanded after reports of sexually explicit deepfakes and Holocaust denial content circulating on the platform. X previously called the probe politically motivated but denied allegations of algorithm manipulation.
The prosecutor's office also announced a shift in communication channels to LinkedIn and Instagram, effective immediately.
