After freeing herself, the victim contacted her sister, who alerted authorities. Awad was apprehended in Louisville, Kentucky, on January 16, 2026, and extradited to Tennessee. He faces charges including aggravated rape with a weapon, aggravated assault, and aggravated burglary.
Award entered the US through the Green Card Lottery program in 2017 and has a history of criminal behavior, including domestic violence and possession of weapons. ICE is holding him in removal proceedings while his case continues.
