African Swine Fever Confirmed in South Korea
South Korea has reported its eighth case of African swine fever (ASF) this year, with the latest outbreak detected at a pig farm in Pocheon. This highly contagious animal disease, which does not affect humans but is fatal to pigs, has been confirmed after a two-month hiatus, following earlier cases in Gyeonggi Province.
The government is implementing containment measures, including culling infected pigs and intensifying quarantine controls. Despite the measures, a nationwide standstill order for all pig farms and related facilities is not planned due to the strict quarantine already in place around affected areas. ASF remains a critical threat to the swine industry with no available vaccine or cure.
