Iran-US Tensions Heighten as Talks Remain Stalled

The ongoing standoff between the United States and Iran continues to escalate, with both sides showing little willingness to budge. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently expressed hope that negotiations would soon resume, but US President Donald Trump has pledged another round of talks next week following mediated discussions in Oman.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran's missile program is 'non-negotiable,' warning that Tehran would target US military bases in the Middle East if the US attacks Iranian territory. Meanwhile, the US has imposed new sanctions on shipping entities and vessels aimed at curbing Iran’s oil exports, with over a quarter of Iran’s trade involving China.

Expert Abdullah al-Shayji believes that without significant concessions from both sides, the talks are likely to fail. He noted that Israel's influence over US policy is a key factor, as the two nations prepare for potential conflict. Additionally, Trump has deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln to the Arabian Sea, symbolizing a tough stance on Iran.

While Iran claims its nuclear enrichment is an 'inalienable right,' Washington seeks to address the ballistic missile program and support for armed groups in the region. The US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff visited the carrier, stressing its role in maintaining security and deterrence against adversaries like Iran.
