Police Framed Man For Female Student’s Murder

BBC Panorama has uncovered new evidence suggesting that Omar Benguit, who spent 23 years in prison for the murder of Jong-Ok Shin, may have been framed by Dorset Police. The key prosecution witness, a drug addict known as BB, provided inconsistent and discredited testimony.

Thirteen other witnesses also admitted to being pressured by police to lie or exaggerate their statements. Retired detective Brian Murphy calls for an investigation into Dorset Police's handling of the case, questioning the safety of Benguit's conviction. The Criminal Cases Review Commission is currently considering the case after discovering missing CCTV tapes and grainy footage linking a man resembling Benguit to the crime scene.

Additional evidence includes phone records showing Omar Benguit had an alibi that discredited the main witness's testimony, which the police buried. Police built their case around the testimony of a proven liar, even though they knew CCTV footage contradicted her story. Two additional witnesses say they lied in court after police pressured them to give false evidence.
