The small community of Kaihu, situated in the Northland region of New Zealand, is currently grappling with grief after a woman was sadly killed by a pack of dogs. The incident occurred on Monday and has left the area devastated. Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, and Police remained there for several hours, setting up a cordon around the location. The community is known for its tight-knit nature, with limited facilities like a rugby field, a gas station, and scattered homes.

Councillor Snow Tane, who also serves as a Kaipara councillor, expressed deep condolences to the victim's family and the affected community. He emphasized the need for responsible dog ownership and suggested that authorities should take immediate action against uncontrolled dogs. Tane highlighted that there have been numerous complaints about these dogs in recent years, but apparently no effective measures were taken.

Additionally, local residents have reported that some dogs are known for chasing cars and cyclists on the Kaihu Valley Bike Trail. The Kaipara District Council has not confirmed whether the specific dogs involved in the attack were under their control or part of any known registry. Following this tragic event, Local Government Minister Simon Watts is seeking urgent advice from officials to improve dog control guidelines across New Zealand.
