Washington, DC – An 18-year-old man from Smyrna, Georgia, was arrested after approaching the US Capitol Building armed with a loaded shotgun. Carter Camacho was wearing tactical gear and carrying extra ammunition when he was intercepted by police officers near the Capitol.
The suspect complied with police orders to drop his weapon and was taken into custody. No specific motive for his actions has been determined yet, but charges include unlawful activities, possession of an unregistered firearm, and carrying a rifle without a license. The incident occurred just one week before President Trump's State of the Union address.
Police later discovered a Mercedes SUV parked near the US Botanic Garden, where they found additional items like a gas mask and a Kevlar helmet inside the vehicle. The suspect was not previously known to authorities, and his vehicle wasn't registered to him.
US Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan emphasized the importance of security measures surrounding the upcoming State of the Union address. Despite this incident, security preparations remain unchanged.
