Wellington resident horrified after raw sewage 'exploded' from his toilet

A Wellington resident describes the shocking experience of raw sewage exploding from his toilet, causing significant mess and discomfort in his home.

A Wellington Resident's Shocking Experience with Raw Sewage

Ed, a Miramar resident, encountered an unsettling incident on Thursday morning when raw sewage 'exploded' from his toilet. This disturbing event took place near Moa Point in Wellington, where Wellington Water staff were working.

'I'd heard some gurgling in the pipe system, and as I opened the door to the bathroom, a little fountain of raw sewage was exploding out of our toilet,' Ed recounted. 'It reached the ceiling and covered every surface in our bathroom.'

The situation left his home unusable and filled with a foul smell. 'Particles of poop everywhere... it's soaked into the towels, it's on everything on the walls, our toilet itself is in a state,' he said.

Ed promptly contacted his neighbor, who had experienced the same issue. They approached the workers on their street and learned that several other residents had also been affected. The workers provided a phone number and a reference for a cleaning job, but these were not functional. However, cleaners arrived to address the problem that evening.

Ed's home is approximately two kilometers away from the Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant. The incident has raised concerns about wastewater management in Wellington. For further information or assistance, residents are encouraged to contact [email protected].
