A Pakistani immigrant died in a Brooklyn fire after a rescue ladder malfunctioned. FDNY is investigating the incident that also injured others.
A tragic fire in Brooklyn resulted in the death of Ashiq Hussain, a 53-year-old Pakistani immigrant, due to a malfunctioning rescue ladder.
The incident occurred near 3902 Ninth Avenue in Sunset Park. Hussain was attempting to escape from a third-story window when the ladder retracted as he stepped onto it. The event was captured on video, showing the firefighter at the top managing to hold on, while Hussain fell.
FDNY officials have launched a full investigation into both the cause of the fire and the ladder malfunction. The ladder has been taken out of service.
Hussain's family is demanding answers and suggesting that the incident could have been prevented. Two other residents suffered from smoke inhalation, and one firefighter sustained a leg injury.
