Italian Tourist Tortured in NYC Apartment Over Crypto Password
A 28-year-old Italian tourist's trip to New York City turned into a nightmare when he was held captive in a Manhattan apartment.
John Woeltz, 37, a crypto investor, allegedly subjected the tourist to electric shocks, forced cocaine use, and threats of dismemberment with a chainsaw, all stemming from a dispute over cryptocurrency account passwords.
The victim, who knew Woeltz from previous business dealings, was reportedly held for over two weeks before escaping and alerting police.
Authorities discovered evidence of torture, including Polaroid photos documenting the abuse.
The tourist was hospitalized with injuries, including a wound believed to be from the chainsaw.
Neighbors described the alleged perpetrator as giving off a 'weird vibe' and were shocked by the arrest.
