Donald Trump signals optimism on Iran nuclear talks, hinting at a breakthrough. Discussions in Rome aim to curb Iran's nuclear activities for sanctions relief.
Donald Trump has expressed optimism regarding the ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran, labeling the progress as "very, very good."
Speaking at Morristown Airport, Trump hinted at a possible breakthrough in the coming days. These discussions, the fifth round mediated by Oman in Rome, aim to establish a new agreement that would curb Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for the easing of sanctions.
These talks represent the most significant engagement between Washington and Tehran since the U.S. withdrew from the JCPOA in 2015.
While Trump conveyed a positive outlook, Iranian officials, including Abbas Araghchi, have adopted a more cautious stance. Oman's foreign minister, Badr Albusaidi, acknowledged "some but not conclusive progress."
The talks precede an IAEA meeting in Vienna and the October expiry of key provisions from the 2015 deal. Trump's shift towards a potentially softer stance occurs amidst continued sanctions and the consideration of military options.
