Trump Criticizes Harvard's Foreign Student Demographics
Former US President Donald Trump has reignited the debate surrounding Harvard University's international student body, asserting that they comprise an excessively large portion of the student population, at approximately 31%.
Trump's Stance on Harvard's Funding
Trump's remarks follow a federal judge's decision to suspend his administration's controversial attempt to block foreign students from enrolling at Harvard. He contends that American taxpayers should not be subsidizing what he perceives as an disproportionate number of international students. Trump has also made accusations of antisemitism against the university.
"Part of the problem with Harvard is they're about 31% foreigners coming to Harvard. We give them billions of dollars, which is ridiculous," Trump stated.
National Security Concerns
The former president has suggested the university should prioritize American applicants, requesting a list of foreign students. Previously, Homeland Security revoked Harvard's ability to enroll international students, citing national security concerns and demanding visa holder records of illegal activity. Harvard challenged this decision in court, leading to the judge's intervention.
Harvard responded by suing the federal government, accusing it of acting "arbitrarily and unlawfully."
