Trump sees 'positive' signs in US-EU trade talks after delaying tariffs. EU seeks quick meetings amid hopes for a breakthrough. Details here.
President Trump has indicated a positive outlook regarding the current trade discussions between the United States and the European Union.
This follows the U.S. president's recent decision to postpone the imposition of a 50% tariff on goods from the EU, providing a window for negotiations.
Trump stated, "I have just been informed that the E.U. has called to quickly establish meeting dates," signaling a proactive approach from the European side.
Trump further expressed his desire for the EU to "open up the European Nations for Trade with the United States of America," mirroring his demands from China. He believes the EU had been proceeding slowly during the negations.
The potential tariffs had initially caused market jitters; however, the delay and renewed negotiation efforts have spurred hope for a breakthrough.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed the EU's readiness to expedite discussions. European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic also mentioned having good conversations with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, suggesting continued engagement between the two parties.
