Trump Claims Success in Destroying Iran's Military Assets

US President Donald Trump has declared that the US and Israel have successfully destroyed Iran's navy and air force during recent military operations. 'They have no navy; it's been knocked out. They have no air force; it's been knocked out,' Trump stated at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Trump emphasized the achievements of the US-Israeli strikes, highlighting that Iran's air detection capabilities have also been neutralized. 'We're doing very well,' he said, adding that the operations were ordered based on his intuition that Iran would strike first as negotiations over its nuclear program stalled.

Merz, who is in Washington to discuss a trade deal with the US and Russia's ongoing conflict with Ukraine, expressed support for the military actions. However, he called for an early end to the conflict to prevent further harm to global economies, particularly oil prices.

Trump also acknowledged Germany's role in supporting US forces, while contrasting it with other European nations like the UK and Spain who have not provided similar access. He emphasized that Germany's assistance is appreciated but stressed that it does not involve boots on the ground.

The war in Iran is a sensitive issue for Merz, facing potential backlash at home over Germany's involvement. Despite his cautious support, he stopped short of fully endorsing the operation, which has been criticized by Trump's opponents for lacking sufficient legal backing.
