An Indian national, living unlawfully in the US, was arrested after a fatal traffic accident in Indianapolis. ICE custody follows a crash where Singh allegedly
A 25-year-old Indian national, Sukhdev Singh, was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after a severe traffic accident in Indianapolis, Indiana. The incident occurred on March 6, 2026, when Singh, who was driving a semi-truck without a lawful immigration status, allegedly struck a pedestrian on Interstate 65, leaving the victim in critical condition.
Despite obtaining a Commercial Driver’s Licence (CDL) in New York on January 2, 2025, Singh was not in lawful immigration status at the time of the crash. Indiana State Police responded to the crash and contacted ICE, which arrived later that evening to take Singh into custody. He remains in ICE custody pending the outcome of his immigration proceedings.
Commenting on the incident, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) deputy assistant secretary Lauren Bis emphasized the dangers of illegal aliens operating 18-wheeler trucks on American highways. She stated that sanctuary governors should stop issuing driver’s licences to illegal aliens to prevent further accidents and injuries.
This arrest follows a series of incidents involving undocumented truck drivers in the US, including a fatal accident in February 2026 that killed four members of an Amish family. In response, the Department of Transportation has introduced stricter regulations on non-domiciled Commercial Driver’s Licences and has taken steps to address the issue of foreign drivers with poor driving records operating commercial vehicles in the US.
The case of Sukhdev Singh serves as a reminder of the importance of immigration enforcement and road safety in the United States. Authorities are urging sanctuary states to take action and prevent further incidents involving illegal aliens behind the wheel.
