Unification Minister Urges North Korea to Seize Chance for Talks with Trump

South Korea's Unification Minister Chung Dong-young has called on North Korea to not miss the opportunity to resume dialogue with the United States after President Donald Trump expressed interest in meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Speaking at a press conference in Seoul, Minister Chung emphasized the necessity and mutual benefit of renewed talks between the two nations, particularly as North Korea seeks to assert its development rights and national security while the US aims to stabilize the security situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Minister Chung also highlighted the importance of these discussions for South Korea's current and future interests. Although North Korea has shown openness to resuming talks in principle, the US must first abandon its hostile policies towards the regime. Trump's apparent willingness to meet Kim again, as noted by South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, suggests a potential for further engagement. However, there have been no specific contacts between Pyongyang and Washington regarding dialogue resumption yet. The situation remains uncertain, but the potential for a US-North Korea summit continues to be a focal point.
