US President Donald Trump issues an ultimatum to Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz, threatening military action if the waterway is not reopened within 48 hour
US President Donald Trump has issued a stern ultimatum to Iran, threatening military action if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed within 48 hours.
In a social media post, Trump warned that the US would target Iran's power plants if Tehran does not reopen the strategic waterway. 'If Iran doesn't fully open, without threat, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 hours from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various power plants, starting with the biggest one first!' he said.
Iran has responded by stating it will retaliate against any attack on its infrastructure. 'Following previous warnings, if Iran's fuel and energy infrastructure is violated by the enemy, all energy, information technology, and desalination infrastructure belonging to the US and the regime in the region will be targeted,' the Khatam Al-Anbiya operational command said in a statement carried by Fars news agency.
The situation is further complicated by rising oil prices and global concerns over energy security. Meanwhile, Israel has shown support for the US stance, while multiple nations have condemned Iran's de facto closure of the Strait.
