AFP-Yonhap TOKYO — Authorities in Japan confirmed Wednesday they arrested a Japanese army soldier on suspicion of trespassing into the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo just a day after Beijing protested over an alleged break-in. The case has intensified tensions between Japan and China. An individual claiming to be a member of Japan's Self-Defense Forces scaled the wall and entered the embassy compound, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian. The suspect was arrested by Tokyo police and is currently being investigated. He reportedly threatened to kill himself if his demands were rejected. The incident comes amid rising tensions between the two nations over issues such as Taiwan's status and trade disputes. Japan has promised to cooperate fully with authorities and investigate the matter thoroughly.

China has demanded that Japan take immediate action, including punishing the individual involved and preventing similar incidents in the future. The suspect was reportedly carrying a knife but no one was injured during the incident. Authorities are still investigating the motives behind the break-in.
