Hero Marine Prevents Mid-Air Emergency on ANA Flight
A U.S. Marine sergeant major is being lauded for his quick thinking and bravery after he prevented a passenger from opening an emergency exit mid-flight on an All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight from Japan to Texas.
The Incident
Sgt Maj Jody Armentrout, a Marine Corps veteran with over two decades of service, noticed the man behaving erratically, pacing the aisles and exhibiting unusual behavior.
When the passenger attempted to tamper with an emergency exit, Armentrout swiftly intervened, tackling him to the ground.
With the help of another passenger, Armentrout restrained the individual and secured him to a seat using zip ties.
Flight Diversion and Aftermath
The flight, originally headed to Houston, was diverted to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport due to the incident. The passenger was then taken to a local hospital, reportedly experiencing a medical crisis.
Further drama unfolded upon landing when another passenger, upset about the diversion, damaged a bathroom door. This individual was also removed by police but faces no charges.
Passengers React
Armentrout's actions were praised by fellow passengers, who expressed gratitude for his bravery and quick thinking, especially considering the presence of families and infants onboard. The FBI is aware of the incidents.
Armentrout described the journey as "weird."
