Cable Companies Gaining Ground: Wireless Giants Losing Customers
New data suggests a notable shift in the telecommunications landscape as consumers increasingly opt for alternatives to traditional wireless providers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
Cable Companies' Surge in Subscribers
A report from MoffettNathanson reveals that cable companies, including Charter Communications, Comcast, and Altice USA, are attracting new customers at an impressive rate. During the first quarter of 2025, these companies collectively added 886,000 lines, a significant increase from the 804,000 added during the same period in 2024.
Key Players and Their Performance
Charter Communications led the charge, adding 514,000 lines, surpassing even T-Mobile, which gained 495,000 lines. While AT&T added 324,000 lines, Verizon experienced a loss of 289,000 customers.
Reasons for the Shift
This change is likely driven by factors like rising prices and service disruptions from the major wireless carriers. Cable companies are now offering a wider array of cell phone plans, including premium options, frequently bundled with home broadband services, making them a compelling alternative for consumers seeking value and convenience.
