Runaway Horses Cause Chaos in Central Park

A chaotic scene unfolded in Central Park on Monday when two carriage horses went on a wild run, resulting in several injuries.

The Incident

The mayhem occurred around 2:30 pm near the Central Park Zoo. A carriage horse named Shadow, spooked while being prepared for a ride, escaped his bridle and bolted. A second horse joined the initial runaway. While the carriages were empty, the high-speed stampede injured several people.

Heroic Intervention

A quick-thinking pedicab driver, already known for assisting in a similar incident a week prior, intervened to try and stop Shadow. Sadly, the hero was kicked and suffered a leg injury, also getting his pedicab flipped in the process.

Activist Response

The incident has reignited the debate between animal rights activists and the carriage horse industry. NYCLASS executive director Edita Birnkrant expressed relief that no one was killed but warned that further incidents are likely. Activists are demanding a ban on the industry due to safety concerns.
