FBI Releases Declassified Documents on 2020 Election Interference

Former FBI Director Kash Patel has released declassified documents concerning potential foreign interference in the 2020 US presidential election. The documents reportedly contain “alarming allegations”.

Key Allegations

According to Patel, the released documents detail potential interference by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He stated that he immediately declassified the material and sent it to Chairman Grassley for further review.

Prior Warnings

Before the 2020 election, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) warned about the possibility of interference by several countries. These included China, Russia, and Iran.

Accusations Against China, Russia, and Iran

William Evanina, then head of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), said that China was believed to oppose Donald Trump’s re-election. Russia allegedly tried to damage Joe Biden’s candidacy by spreading disinformation. Iran was accused of undermining democratic institutions.

Trump's Response

Trump said his administration would examine the claims very closely.

Since 2025, Trump has appeared friendlier toward Russia.
