Salman Rushdie Attacker Sentenced to 25 Years
Hadi Matar, the individual responsible for the attack on novelist Sir Salman Rushdie, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. The sentencing follows Matar's conviction for attempted murder and assault related to the August 2022 incident.
Details of the Attack
The attack unfolded while Sir Salman Rushdie was giving a lecture in New York. Matar's actions resulted in severe injuries to Rushdie, including the loss of sight in one eye, liver damage, and a paralyzed hand.
Concurrent Sentencing for Assault
In addition to the 25-year sentence, Matar also received a seven-year sentence, along with three years of post-release supervision, for assaulting Henry Reese, who was interviewing Rushdie at the time of the incident. The sentences will run concurrently, as both victims were injured during the same event.
