The United States has announced the temporary closure of its embassy in Jerusalem due to escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
The U.S. State Department stated the embassy in Jerusalem will be closed from Wednesday through Friday. This includes the Consular Sections in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The decision was made given the current security situation and in compliance with Israel Home Front Command guidance.
Military tensions between Iran and Israel have continued to escalate, with explosions reported in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Missile strikes have been witnessed in residential areas. The U.S. Embassy branch in Tel Aviv sustained minor damage from Iranian missile strikes nearby, with no injuries to U.S. personnel.
Despite the ongoing crisis, no evacuation has been announced for American citizens in the region. All US government employees and their families have been instructed to shelter in place in and near their residences until further notice.
The closures come amid speculation about a potential American military response. President Trump convened a meeting with his National Security Council after calling for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.” The US has yet to make any formal announcement about evacuating citizens or engaging in direct military retaliation.
