Indian-origin insurance broker Harjeet Singh Dhadda was fatally shot in Mississauga, Canada. His family alleges police negligence after reported threats.
A 51-year-old Sikh businessman and insurance broker of Indian origin, Harjeet Singh Dhadda, was shot dead in a targeted attack in Mississauga, Ontario.
Unidentified gunmen ambushed Dhadda in a parking lot, firing approximately 20 rounds. He later died in the hospital. Peel Regional Police are investigating the case as a targeted killing.
Dhadda's family has criticized the Peel Regional Police, claiming they ignored repeated threats against him. They allege that despite reporting the threats and requesting security, their pleas were disregarded.
Dhadda had been a resident of Canada since 1997. His family denies any criminal affiliations, emphasizing his honest life and positive contributions to Canada. "My father did not deserve this. He was not involved in anything criminal," said his son, Tanveer Dhadda.
While some reports suggest he was involved in trucking services, an aide of Lawrence Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the killing, alleging Dhadda had assisted Khalistan Tiger Force chief Arsh Dalla.
Peel police have acknowledged awareness of unverified information circulating about the homicide but did not confirm receiving threat reports. The Peel police chief noted a rise in extortion attempts targeting South Asian business owners in late 2023 and said a task force had been formed to address these issues.
