Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency, describing the event as one of the worst disasters during his tenure and called for national support. Residents in London, Kentucky, recounted horrifying scenes of flattened homes.
In Missouri, St. Louis was struck by a confirmed EF-3 tornado, resulting in five deaths and 38 injuries. Additional deaths were reported in Scott County, Missouri, and Virginia.
The storms caused widespread power outages, affecting over 462,000 customers. Staffing shortages within the National Weather Service exacerbated the crisis. Forecasters are warning of more severe weather in Texas, Oklahoma, and the Plains.
