Tragic LPG Explosion Claims Lives of Students in Pakistan
A devastating incident unfolded in Ahmedpur East, Pakistan, resulting in the loss of two young lives and injuries to 19 others. A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder exploded within a college van, causing widespread devastation.
Details of the Incident
The explosion occurred as the van was transporting students from various private colleges in the Liaquatpur area back to their homes. Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene, providing immediate assistance and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
Casualties and Aftermath
Tragically, Tayyaba Abbas, 19, and Ujala, 17, succumbed to their injuries. Four other students are currently in critical condition, receiving specialized care at the Burn Unit of Nishtar Hospital in Multan.
Legal Action and Investigation
Law enforcement has initiated a terrorism case under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The investigation targets the principals and administrative staff of the colleges, as well as the van owner and driver, alleging negligence in prioritizing cost savings over student safety by using a poorly maintained vehicle.
Past Incidents
A previous gas cylinder explosion in Irum Colony, Mardan, caused the collapse of a two-story house, resulting in six fatalities. Additionally, a roof collapse in Dijkot injured eight family members.
