Karachi Building Collapse Claims Lives; Residents Face Blame
A six-story residential building in Karachi's Lyari neighbourhood collapsed, resulting in a tragic loss of life. Rescue efforts are underway, but the death toll has risen to 12. Approximately 20 people are feared trapped under the debris.
Rescue Efforts and Casualties
So far, 19 individuals have been rescued from the rubble, including five women. Nine people were injured. Three remain under medical care at SMBB Trauma Centre. Rescue operations are continuing around the clock.
Official Statements and Blame
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed the fatalities. The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) asserts the building was previously declared dangerous, with eviction notices issued. However, residents dispute these claims. Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi visited the site and blamed residents for occupying unsafe structures.
