Sean Duffy appointed interim NASA administrator by Trump, replacing Jared Isaacman due to SpaceX concerns. This follows reported tensions between Musk and Trump
President Donald Trump has appointed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy as the interim administrator of NASA. This decision follows the withdrawal of tech billionaire Jared Isaacman's nomination.
In a statement, Trump lauded Duffy's work in improving air traffic control systems and infrastructure. "Sean is doing a TREMENDOUS job... creating state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control systems, while at the same time rebuilding our roads and bridges," Trump stated.
The withdrawal of Isaacman's nomination came after concerns arose regarding his close ties to Elon Musk and SpaceX, given NASA's existing partnership with the company. Trump indicated a need for a NASA leader prioritizing American interests.
This change follows reported disagreements between Musk and Trump regarding policy matters, including a reported clash between Duffy and Musk regarding air traffic controllers during a cabinet meeting.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently also serving as interim national security adviser and national archivist.
