A Boko Haram attack in Borno, Nigeria, resulted in 57 deaths and 70+ missing. JAS faction militants targeted villages, escalating regional violence.
A devastating attack attributed to Boko Haram's Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction has left at least 57 people dead and over 70 missing in Nigeria's Borno state. The assault targeted the villages of Mallam Karamti and Kwatandashi.
Eyewitnesses reported that militants stormed the neighboring villages, gathering over 100 residents and forcing them into the surrounding bush. The victims were accused of being informants for the rival Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
According to local sources, 57 bodies have been recovered, many bearing signs of extreme violence, including slit throats and gunshot wounds. The victims' burial was delayed due to the unavailability of military assistance for body retrieval.
The mass killing occurred amidst a surge in violence within Borno state. Recent attacks by ISWAP have also targeted military installations, further destabilizing the region. Years of conflict have led to a massive humanitarian crisis, displacing millions and straining resources.
