A devastating car bomb attack in Al-Mayadeen, eastern Syria, claimed the lives of at least three police officers on Sunday. The explosion, which occurred near a police station, also left two other people wounded.
According to the state news agency SANA, the incident took place in the city of Al-Mayadeen in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. Khalil Abdulmoneim al-Ayoub, director of Al-Mayadeen city, stated that the explosion was caused by a car bomb. The blast occurred at approximately 7:13 pm local time (1603 GMT).
Initial investigations revealed the deaths of three members of the General Security and a number of injuries. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a higher death toll, stating that five people were killed, including four police officers. They also noted that two civilians, including a girl, were among the injured. The explosion coincided with a security campaign in Al-Mayadeen by the General Security.
