Indian-Origin Businessman Murdered in Ontario: Community Fears Rising Crime
The tragic murder of Harjeet Dhadda, an Indian-origin businessman in Ontario, has ignited fear and outrage within the Sikh community. Amarjeet Gill, a Canadian MP, has voiced serious concerns about escalating crime rates in the Peel Region.
Rising Crime Concerns
Gill emphasized the growing anxieties surrounding car thefts, house break-ins, and extortion, creating a climate of fear among residents.
Details of the Murder
Harjeet Dhadda was fatally shot in a parking lot. The Lawrence Bishnoi group claimed responsibility, alleging that Dhadda was supporting Arsh Dalla, a leader within the Khalistani Tiger Force. However, Dhadda's family vehemently denies any connections to criminal activities.
Family's Plea and Police Response
Dhadda's daughter, Gurlin, has criticized the police for their inadequate response to earlier threats against her father, including a $500,000 extortion demand reported in December 2023. Initial security measures were later withdrawn.
Community's Reaction
Gurlin questioned the safety of the Sikh community, demanding immediate action to address the rise in extortion and violence. "Our community is grieving, but we are also outraged," she stated.
Family's Statement
His son, Tanveer Dhadda, asserted his father's upright life and condemned the perpetrators' blatant disregard for the law.
