The incident occurred on American Airlines flight 2860 from Phoenix (PHX) to San Francisco (SFO). A flight attendant caught Nguyen vaping in the lavatory. He responded by filming the interaction, accusing the crew member of harassment, and referencing his social media following.

Nguyen's attempt to garner sympathy backfired. Many online users condemned his actions, pointing out the violation of airline policy and potential safety risks. He claimed the air hostess opened the door on him while he was on the toilet but it was not received well by social media.

American Airlines confirmed the incident, stating that the passenger was removed from the aircraft upon arrival in San Francisco due to disruptive behavior. The San Francisco Police Department escorted him from the airport. The airline also mentioned an ongoing internal investigation.
